Dear user of the QE2 Hospital in Welwyn Garden City,
On Monday 28th February a decision was taken to close the 24 hour
children’s Accident and Emergency unit (known as the PAU) during the night
at the QE2 Hospital in Welwyn Garden City.
This decision will mean that, in future, parents will have to take their
children to the Lister Hospital in Stevenage if an emergency crops up
after 11pm at night until 7:30am in the morning.
Scan24 is the campaign to have that decision overturned. We believe that a
judicial review must take place because the consultation process that made
the decision was only allowed to consider two options and both of them
involved scaling back services.
Of course, this is only the latest blow for our local hospital and comes
hot on the heels of the Tewin Children’s Ward being closed down, the loss
of geriatric services and, we understand, the shortly to be announced
closure of the eye specialism at our WGC hospital.
When the local NHS Trust was merged with Stevenage, we were promised that
certain services, including our children’s A&E would be protected. This
has simply turned out to be untrue and if you would like to challenge this
decision that will appal all local parents, please sign our petition
either in person or online at: www.Scan24.org
Please support the Scan24 campaign for all our children Grant Shapps (local parent, Tewin Ward campaigner and
Prospective MP for Welwyn Hatfield)
P.S. The Scan24 campaign is also personally backed by the original Save
Tewin Ward campaigner, Albert Johnson.
